Acer Expands BYOC Global Operations to China

Acer announces the establishment of Acer Cloud Technology (Chongqing) Ltd. in Xiantao Big Data Valley, Chongqing, China. The presence in Chongqing will be the third BYOC™ (Build Your Own Cloud) operations worldwide, with the other two located in Taipei and Silicon Valley. The opening ceremony was hosted on October 24th by Acer Honorary Chairman and BYOC Chief Architect Stan Shih, and Acer Chairman George Huang, and joined by local dignities including the mayor of Chongqing.

Moving forward, Acer Cloud Technology (Chongqing) will focus on research, development, and commercial applications of cloud computing; big data; and IoT (Internet of Things) devices, based on the Acer Open Platform (AOP) in the areas of smart life, connected car, communications, and health care.

“The Internet of Beings (IoB) concept is Acer’s proposal for the era of new C&C (Computing and Communication),” said Stan Shih, Honorary Chairman and BYOC Chief Architect, Acer. “As the Internet of Things cannot function without insight, the human-centric IoB concept is based on a collective of intelligence.”

“Chongqing is China’s largest and most important notebook computer manufacturing base, and is also an important global operations hub for Acer,” said George Huang, Chairman, Acer. “We hope to extend Acer’s hardware + software + services vision to Chongqing, working with our partners to expand the local value-chain of big data and IoT.”

The Acer Cloud Technology (Chongqing) facility located in Xiantao Big Data Valley spans over 3,500 m2 of floor space, and houses an experience center, an operations center, an R&D center, and the Innovation and Commercialization Accelerator under one roof.

Located on the first floor and open to the public, the experience center will display solutions of Acer’s abPBX plus series and aBeing series, and applications in multiple verticals.

The Innovation and Commercialization Accelerator is a new cluster combining world-class experience and resources in the cloud platform, industrial and software design, market research, and hardware manufacturing areas, to incubate startups and aid in new industry developments. It has professional CNC (Computerized Numerical Control), 3D scanning, 3D printing, laser engraving, and SMT (Surface-Mount Technology) equipment, with the goal of being a one-stop shop for consulting, prototyping, planning, and marketing services, accelerating the process of bringing products to market for startups.

Acer offers two BYOC application solutions for the era of new computing and communications, namely the abPBX plus series for enterprises, and aBeing series for homes. Both cloud solutions may be used with a variety of smart mobile devices of enterprises, homes or individuals, and in ways beyond the scope of the IoT. Acer is coining the IoB concept within its BYOC ecosystem which provides highly secure technologies for communication, consolidation, and sharing of information.
