Acer Scores Seven Design & Innovation Awards from Computex and iF Design

Acer today announces the winning of seven Computex d&i (design and innovation) awards 2015. The products awarded this year include products just unveiled at Acer’s “next@acer” press event in New York in April, namely the Aspire Switch 10 E 2-in-1 and Aspire E 15 notebooks, Predator X34 gaming monitor, Iconia One 8 tablet, and the widely praised Chromebook 15, Revo One RL85 entertainment center, and stylish H257HU monitor.

Two of the products, the Aspire Switch 10 E and Revo One RL85, are also recent winners of the prestigious Red Dot design awards. "At Acer we believe not only that our products need to be reliable and robust, but at the same time beautiful and sensational," said Seji Peng, Associate Vice President of Acer's Industrial Design Business Unit. "We are constantly innovating our manufacturing processes to enhance the touch and feel of our products, such as the new textile-pattern on the Aspire E 15, and the textured tartan pattern on the Iconia One 8, so that people get tactile satisfaction while holding and using them, which is is part of the Acer design language.”

The Computex d&i awards are hosted by Computex Taipei’s organizer, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, and organized by the world-renowned design institute iF International Forum Design. The winning entries are selected by an international expert panel, with evaluation criteria including degree of innovation, design quality, craftsmanship, choice of materials, environmental friendliness, functionality, utility value, safety, ergonomics, universal design, product identity, and product branding.

Aspire E 15
The 15-inch Aspire E 15 notebook not only comes in a variety of color options, but also features a textile-pattern on the cover and underside which has been manufactured through a brand new process, involving 3D scanning of fabric samples, which are then replicated into molds with 3D printing technology and finished with a laser engraving process. The bold and colorful interior panels extend to an eye-catching ring around the machine visible even when the lid is closed. The Aspire E 15 is the first notebook on the market to feature integrated MU-MIMO1 wireless functionality, providing up to three times faster2 802.11 wireless speeds.

Aspire Switch 10 E
The Switch 10 E 2-in-1 notebook features a second generation Acer Snap Hinge™ 2 with a guiding plane design for exceptionally smooth switching between modes. It is available in six eye-catching colors with a sophisticated textile pattern on the top cover and underside that helps prevent scratches, while providing a stylish appearance and a better grip for easier carrying and transport. Outfitted with a powerful 30Wh battery, the Switch 10 E provides up to 12 hours of battery life on just one charge, enough for working on a transcontinental flight or a full day of classes and homework3 .

Iconia One 8
Weighing just 355 grams and 9.5 mm thin, the Iconia One 8 is available in ten eye-catching colors. A textured tartan crisscross pattern on the back provides a sophisticated cloth-like aesthetic and tactile feel for a secure grip. In addition to its bright, crystal-clear 8-inch HD display (1280 x 800) with Zero Air Gap and IPS technology4 , it also features Acer Precision Plus technology, offering a highly accurate touch and writing experience.

Predator X34 Monitor
The 34-inch curved 21:9 ultra-wide Predator X34 monitor (formally known as the XR341CKA) is the world’s first curved monitor with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™, providing an immersive gaming experience with minimal stutters and screen tears. It features DTS® sound, 2x7W speakers, a zero-frame design with a futuristic aluminum base and ambient lighting options create an exciting entertainment experience with style. The Predator X34’s UltraWide QHD (3440 x 1440) IPS panel has a 178-degree viewing angle, and also features flicker-less technology to lessen eye fatigue for a more comfortable gaming or working experience.

Chromebook 15 (C910)
Acer set a new milestone in the Chromebook market when it launched the Acer Chromebook 15, the fastest commercial model5 in the industry. Designed for education and business customers who need extra screen real estate, outstanding Chrome performance, and a durable design, the Chromebook 15 features the industry’s first 15.6-inch display and the 5th generation Intel® Core™ i5-5200U processor, while the case can withstand up to 60 kg of force, and the corners fortified to tolerate up to 45 cm drops without damage. It also has the largest touchpad of any Chromebook today so customers will have a better overall experience and greater flexibility to zoom, scroll and navigate around the device.

Revo One RL85
The Revo One RL85 is a mini PC for family use with sleek, simple and stylish design. Engineered as an entire family’s entertainment center, the Revo One RL85 is big on capabilities while maintaining a small form factor, thanks to the thin design and high capacity of the Samsung Spinpoint™ M9T hard drive it employs. It supports up to 6TB of storage, up to two 4K displays, and 7.1 channel audio output. With its small footprint and discreet form with soft curves, the Revo One saves on space and fits in every corner of the home.

H257HU monitor
The 25-inch H257HU monitor features a frameless design and a premium brushed-metal stand with a distinct round rim base. The WQHD (2560x1440) display has a glossy back panel with an aluminum front frame, and also features DTS® sound enhancements and a HDMI 2.0 port, making it ideal for high-resolution movie enjoyment. The panel features IPS technology4 to allow wide viewing angles, and reproduces 100% of the sRGB color gamut with 6-axis color control.

Award Pavilion at Computex
All winning products will be displayed at the Computex d&i awards pavilion located at booth I0407 at the Nangang Exhibition Hall, during Computex Taipei from June 2nd to 6th. The winning products will then continue on a world tour at other major ICT exhibitions including IFA in Berlin, GITEX in Dubai, CES in Las Vegas, MWC in Barcelona, and CeBIT in Hannover.
