Acer Wins Five Japanese Good Design Awards
Acer announces that five of its products have been honored at the 2015 edition of Japan’s Good Design Award, namely the Revo One RL85 mini PC, Aspire R 11 convertible notebook, Aspire Switch 10 E 2-in-1 notebook, Predator Z35 curved gaming monitor, and K138STi portable LED projector. This year, Acer’s winning products stood out from over 3,600 entries, and will be on display at the Good Design Exhibition 2015 (G Exhibition) in Midtown Tokyo from October 30th.
“The latest honors from the Good Design Award are a recognition of our relentless pursuit of design excellence across our product portfolio,” said Maarten Schellekens, Vice President of Acer Global Marketing and Branding. “With an array of design awards from internationally renowned design institutes under our belt, we will continue to create innovative products that exceed consumers’ expectations, both aesthetically and functionally.”
“As the PC industry shifts from being technology-centric to human-centric, Acer has invested a lot of effort exploring and creating designs that users really want,” said Seji Peng, Associate Vice President of the Acer Industrial Design Business Unit. “The core idea behind our design philosophy is for products to fit in multiple aspects of life, like an SUV with enough power under the hood for off-road sports, but still looks and drives elegantly to the office.”
Peng continued, “To achieve this, color, material, and surface finish treatment play an important role. We have been building a unique Acer design identity with a characteristic color and pattern palette, along with a distinct choice of material to allow people to choose the design that fits and blends perfectly with their taste and lifestyle.”
Revo One RL85 Mini PC
The multiple award-winning1Revo One RL85 is a mini PC for family use with sleek, simple and stylish design. Engineered as an entire family’s entertainment center, the Revo One is big on capabilities while maintaining a small form factor. It supports up to 6TB of storage, up to 4K display resolution, and 7.1 channel audio output. With its small footprint and discreet form with soft curves, the Revo One saves on space and fits in every corner of the home.
Aspire R 11 Convertible Notebook
The 11.6-inch Aspire R 11 is the smallest member of Acer’s convertible notebook lineup. This compact notebook makes the most of small spaces with a uniquely-designed 360-degree hinge that allows it to convert fluidly between four modes for creating and sharing. The Aspire R 11 features a fabric-textured cover and underside created with a laser etching process for a visually appealing and functional exterior that’s scratch resistant and provides a firm grip.
Aspire Switch 10 E 2-in-1 Notebook
Thin, lightweight, and vividly-colored, the Aspire Switch 10 E was designed for taking to class, to work and on the road. It combines a Microsoft Windows® notebook and tablet experience in one flexible device, while the second generation Acer Snap Hinge™ 2 with guiding plane design allows exceptionally smooth switching between modes. A low center of gravity combined with a keyboard dock that can be elevated up to 5 degrees, enables easier and more comfortable typing.
Predator Z35 Curved Gaming Monitor
The Predator Z35 is the first product of Acer’s Predator Z Series curved gaming monitors with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™. Its 35-inch 21:9 UltraWide Full HD (2560x1080) panel features a curvature of 2000R for immersive, wraparound gaming. It also supports overclocking to a lightning-fast 200Hz refresh rate, so gamers can find their enemies before they spot them and enjoy crystal clear turns on the racetrack, and features powerful audio with DTS® Sound, 9Wx2 speakers and Acer TrueHarmony technology.
K138STi Portable LED Projector
Capable of projecting a 100-inch image with only 1.7m distance to the projection surface, the Acer K138STi is a portable short-throw LED projector with all the essential entertainment features enabling people to enjoy cinema on the go, even without a PC. Smaller than a sheet of A4 or letter-sized paper, the K138ST has remarkable portability thanks to a built-in battery and powerful built-in DTS® sound stereo speakers. Equipped with Acer’s LumiSense+ light sensor, the K138STi can automatically optimize brightness and color saturation based on ambient lighting conditions and content, ideal for carrying from place to place.

The Good Design Award is hosted by the Japan Institute for Design Promotion, a public interest incorporated foundation. It’s precursor, the Good Design Selection System (or G Mark System), was founded in 1957 by Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (the current Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), and has engaged in this field for about 60 years. Submissions come from a wide range of industries, and roughly 1,200 designs are recognized every year. Over 59 years, around 42,000 designs have been recognized by the awards.
